Leeds Pride Weekend and Yorkshire Bears 4th Birthday
August 1, 2015 - August 2, 2015
Join the Yorkshire Bears for our biggest party yet, to celebrate our 4th Birthday and Leeds Pride 2015 in style. We’ve pulled out all the stops, and timed it to coincide with the photoshoot for our 2016 Calendar, so there’s going to be hunky members galore travelling from across the UK to be here for the weekend, keen to sample some famous Yorkshire hospitality.
Speaking of fresh meat, we’re beginning this year’s Big Weekender on Saturday 2nd August at 7pm, with a visit to one of our regular venues, The Reform Bar on Merrion Street, where we’ll be wolfing down free pizza al fresco, hopefully on a warm summer’s evening. Alternatively, if it’s pissing it down you can always turn a 14” thin crust peperoni into a makeshift rain hat – it’s Pride weekend, do what you like.
After Reform we’re heading down to The Bear Pit at Mission 2 for 9pm, where we’ll be getting the party started with some drinking, socialising, flirting, cruising and full-on shirts-off disco dancing until the wee small hours of the morning.
Then wake up groaning on Sunday 2nd August, slip on your sunglasses, get yourself a Full English, and come and join the Yorkshire Bears on the Leeds Pride Parade. Details have yet to be fully finalised by the event organisers, but in the past we’ve met at midday in Millennium Square, dodged the bits of flying shrapnel as fibreglass poles shattered into a thousand pieces under the weight of our huge banners, and set off at 2pm marching proudly through the City, past rapturous crowds and gawping shoppers, down to Lower Briggate.
As with last year, it would be fantastic to have as many people as possible in their Yorkshire Bears T-Shirts/Vests to make a real impact on the parade, so if you still haven’t got one or fancy a new colour then have a look in the shop and see if there’s any you like. And while you’re there why not pick up one of our Discount Cards too? At just a fiver it gives you pretty much half-price pints in Mission during our events, along with drinks deals in Reform, the Viaduct and other partner venues, including the highlight of the weekend . . .
The Yorkshire Bears Post-Pride Bear Enclosure! That’s right – we listened to your tales of woe from last year which included: a) aching feet and needing a nice sit down after walking for almost half a mile b) drunken seventeen year olds high on Hazel Dean knocking beer all down your front c) queuing for ages for expensive drinks d) the indignities of getting trapped inside a portaloo while your ‘friends’ shook it violently from side to side. And we thought to ourselves, ‘You know what, we can do better than this.’ So the Yorkshire Bears are making Pride a much more refined experience by taking over the Mission Nightclub’s VIP Section and transforming it into our very own Bear Enclosure with two bars, plenty of seating, an outdoor patio area, actual working toilets and, best of all, just £2 a pint for Yorkshire Bears Discount Card holders.
For entry to the Bear Enclosure just collect a wristband from us in Millennium Square, on the Parade itself, or come down to the club from around 3pm, (the main Mission entrance is on Heaton’s Court next to the Basement Complex sauna). Our VIP area is also within spitting distance of the main stage, (please don’t take that too literally) which means you’ll never be far away from the action, and once you’ve got your wristband you can come and go as you please.
Wristbands are free of charge to all Yorkshire Bears members, and invited guests are welcome, but our parties are fun, friendly and safe environments and we do reserve the right to refuse admission to anyone that’s completely barking. If you’ve been given a ban from our events and would like to appeal, then we’d ask you to put it all down in writing, stick it in an envelope addressed to ‘The Yorkshire Bears’, and pop it into the litter bin opposite Queen’s Court, thanks!
As for everyone else we can’t wait to see you at Pride – this is going to be the biggest bear party in Yorkshire all year, and it’s one you really don’t want to miss. Check out the video promo below, and as always huge gratitude to all those who sacrificed their time and dignity to take part.
