Sandinista (27)The Yorkshire Bears had another successful night out on the 21st May. This time, the bears went to Sandinista, a Leeds Latin-style tapas bar. It was opened in 2002 and got its name from the Clash’s fourth album and the Nicaraguan revolutionary party the Sandinistas. The Yorkshire Bears have lots in common with the non-conformist spirit of this bar, so it’s no surprise that the group felt very much at home in this lovely casa.

The night kicked off at 7.30 with drinks (of course…!) with many new members attending their first Yorkshire Bears event. Andrew, one of our newest members said ‘You were all so welcoming! I’ll deffo be seeing you again.’

The food options were either £5 or £6 and this included a bottle of very tasty Argentinian beer! Everyone decided it would be easier to have a mixture of food, so everyone could just share; another example of how easy-going the Yorkshire Bears group is. The food was very tasty especially the king prawn Jambalaya (my favourite) and, whilst there wasn’t a lot of food, is there ever enough food at a bear gathering??? But what do you want for £5, some bars charge nearly that, just for the beer…

More beers followed, there’s a good choice of draft and bottle beers, ciders and cocktails; although I think we only had the beers and cider. The night flowed and many new friendships were formed (thanks to Facebook) and I for one certainly stayed out later than a man of my age should on a school night, but I was having too much fun to let work spoil a great night!

Finally, if you’ve never been to a Yorkshire Bears event (why not?) but feel too shy to come on your own, get in touch with any of the admin team and we can arrange to meet you on the night before the event, or just let us know and we can come out, take you in to the event and introduce you to everyone. I promise that you won’t leave without having a fantastic night but also that you’ll make some new friends along the way, ready for your next outing with The Yorkshire Bears.
